Lubrication School 1 (Fundamentals of Machinery Lubrication) is designed to help you prepare for the following ICML certification exams:
- Level 1 Machine Lubricant Analyst (MLA1)
- Level 1 Machine Lubrication Technician (MLT1)
Lubrication School 2 (Advanced Machinery Lubrication) is designed to help you prepare for the following ICML certification exam:
- Level II Machine Lubrication Technician (MLT2)

Certification is an important part of the training process because it confirms you possess the skills to do the job. Combining training with certification creates a knowledgeable and valuable employee.
Please indicate on your registration form if you wish to sit the certification exam. Testing will be held on the afternoon following the training.
The International Council for Machinery Lubrication (ICML) is a vendor neutral, not-for-profit organisation founded to facilitate growth and development of machine lubrication. Among its various activities, ICML offers skill certification testing for individuals in the fields of machine condition monitoring, lubrication and oil analysis.
Level I MLA Certification Requirements
To become certified, you must meet the following requirements:
Experience
You must have at least 12 months experience in the field of lubricant-analysis-based machinery condition monitoring. The months of experience are based on 16 hours minimum per month of sampling and analysis experience.
Training
You must have received 24 hours of documented formal training as outlined in the Body of Knowledge of the MLA I.
Examination
You must successfully pass a written, 70-question, multiple-choice examination that evaluates the your knowledge of the topic. You have three hours to complete the closed-book examination. A score of 70% is required to pass the examination and achieve certification.
Level I MLT Certification Requirements
To become certified, an individual must meet the following requirements:
Education and/or Experience
You must have at least two years education (post-secondary) or on-the-job training in one or more of the following fields: machine lubrication, engineering, mechanical maintenance and/or maintenance trades.
Training
You must have received at least 16 hours of documented formal training in machinery lubrication.
Examination
You must successfully pass a written, 100-question, multiple-choice examination that evaluates the candidate's knowledge of the topic. You have three hours to complete the closed-book examination. A score of 70% is required to pass the examination and achieve certification.
Level II MLT Certification Requirements
Education and/or Experience
You must have at least three years education (post-secondary) or on-the-job training in one or more of the following fields: machine lubrication, engineering, mechanical maintenance and/or maintenance trades and hold Level I Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT) certification.
Training
You must have received at least 32 hours of documented formal training in machinery lubrication.
Examination
You must successfully pass a written, 100-question, multiple-choice examination that evaluates the candidate's knowledge of the topic. You have three hours to complete the closed-book examination. A score of 70% is required to pass the examination and achieve certification.
